SHEEP LANE IMPROVEMENTS PRAISED AS MAJOR BENEFIT

A major road construction project underway in Tooele County is being heralded as a major step in targeting distribution and warehouse operations to the area.

In a cooperative effort between the Tooele City, Tooele County, and the Utah Industrial Depot (UID), Sheep Lane Road, located between State Route 112 and State Route 138, is undergoing numerous safety and traffic improvements.  This upgrade will allow for additional truckloads to move in and out of the depot without taking timely detours through the downtown area.  This will also all9ow for less truck traffic to congest the commercial trade routes.

When complete, the road will allow motorists to travel over a new wider two-lane thoroughfare designed with safety in mind.  In addition, the road, which currently has an “S” shape curve, will be smoothed out and receive a new asphalt surface so larger transportation vehicles can utilize the route more effectively.

“This project is a great example of how a good partnership between the city, county and the Utah Industrial Depot can pay off in a successful project” said Tooele County Engineer, Ray Johnson.  Sheep Lane Road is a strategic route for the UID in its efforts to attract targeted industries and will also provide an added transportation incentive to companies looking to relocate or expand here.”

The $1.3 million project is scheduled to be complete in November 2003.  The contractor on the project is Ward Engineering Group.
